Wayfair has named Walmart veteran Fiona Tan as its new chief technology officer (CTO) effective March 1, 2022.

Her appointment marks the third CTO the company has had over the last three years. She will be taking over the role from Jim Miller, who has held the position since 2019, initially in an interim role and later as the permanent CTO. Miller plans to stay with the company until June 30, which is when he will plans to retire.

Tan brings more than 25 years of experience working in the tech space, including six years at Walmart, where she served as the senior vice president, overseeing technology and engineering across mobile, web and merchant-facing technology. She joined Wayfair in 2020.

“As we move forward on our rapid growth trajectory, we are incredibly excited to welcome Fiona to the CTO role. In just two years, Fiona has established an impressive track record of success across our Technology organization and is, without a doubt, the exceptional leader and technologist we need to advance our exciting and ambitious growth plans moving forward,” said Niraj Shah, Wayfair CEO and co-founder.

Tan’s appointment follows Wayfair’s recent investments in improving its technological infrastructure. The company has opened several new engineering hubs across North America, including in cities such as Toronto, Seattle, San Francisco and Austin.

While the company saw rapid growth at the start of the pandemic, its sales have since slowed down. The company’s latest quarterly results show that its net sales fell by 18.7% to $3.1 billion.
