Walmart Adds Spotify To Its Membership Plan
Walmart will be offering free Spotify premium membership for six months to its Walmart+ members — the latest effort by the retailer to make its membership offering more lucrative.
“Walmart+ members have told us they’re passionate about their music and entertainment, so today’s announcement is just one more way that we’re adding value to our Walmart+ membership,” said Chris Cracchiolo, senior vice president of Walmart+in a blog post.
The membership plan, which is Walmart’s equivalent of Amazon Prime, offers free shipping on products along with access to everyday benefits and member-exclusive deals.
While Walmart has continued to add new perks to its membership plan, it has yet to disclose the total number of Walmart+ members currently enrolled in the program.
“I don’t really want to have the company defined by one metric,” said Walmart CEO Doug McMillon on the company’s Q4 earnings call last month. “And with subscriptions being such a topic these days, everybody gets really focused on that. Walmart is always going to be a business where you need to look across and see how the omnichannel this is playing out.”
The company also announced that its Walmart+ plan is now available for free to its 1.6 million full-time and part-time employees.
