witter has announced plans to remove legacy blue checkmarks from accounts on April Fool’s Day.

The news comes nearly three months after CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the company would start removing existing checks as “the way in which they were given out was corrupt and nonsensical.”

Following Musk’s tweet, many users with existing verified accounts began seeing pop-up notices when they would click the checkmark saying that they had a legacy verified account, and it may or may not be notable.

Existing verified users can now instead choose to pay for the Twitter Blue subscription for $8 per month on the company’s website or $11 if they decide to sign up on iOS or Android apps. Users are also offered different checkmark colors and badges, depending on whether it’s a business, private or government-operated account.

The subscription service, which became globally available on Thursday, gives users access to exclusive features, such as fewer ads, prioritized ranking, and the ability to create longer tweets and edit and undo them later, among other things.
