TikTok Chief Operating Officer V. Pappas has resigned from their role after serving for five years in the position.

“Given all the successes reached at TikTok, I finally feel the time is right to move on and refocus on my entrepreneurial passions,” said Pappas.

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has named TikTok’s Chief of Staff, Adam Presser, as the new operations chief. The company has also appointed Walt Disney veteran Zenia Mucha as the chief brand and communications officer.

“As we embark on this next chapter, we are grateful to Zenia and Adam for their support and enthusiasm, and look forward to working closely with them as we evolve and Grow Together,” Shou said. “I’d also like to thank V. again for their contributions and continued commitment to the company. This is an important time for our company, and I am confident that we are in a strong position to match the opportunities ahead of us.”

Pappas’ previously served as the head of audience and insights teams at YouTube, where they worked for eight years. In 2018, Pappas was hired as the U.S. general manager of TikTok. Two years later, they were appointed as the interim chief executive of TikTok before finally being named the chief operating officer in April 2021.

Over time, Pappas became the face of TikTok’s business in the U.S. However, TikTok Chief Executive Officer Shou Chew has, as of late, been playing a more prominent role amidst regulatory headwinds posing a challenge to the company’s business in the country.
