Skechers to Donate 20,000 Pairs to Victims of Maui Wildfires — Retail Bum
Footwear brand Skechers is donating $250,000 to the Hawaii Community Foundation Maui Strong Fund.
The donation will go toward supporting disaster response and recovery efforts for Maui communities in Hawaii who have been devastated by recent wildfires. The fires have notably been the deadliest in the U.S. in 100 years, resulting in the death of 93 people and the destruction of 2,700 buildings in the historic town of Lahaina.
“This is a devastating event of massive proportions for Maui and all of Hawaii — the lives lost, the thousands injured, livelihoods impacted by destroyed businesses, and the history that Lahaina represents,” said Skechers President Michael Greenberg.
Greenberg pointed to Skechers’ connection to the people of Hawaii, with the company opening its first store on the islands in 1998 and operating a store in Lahaina.
“As a company and as individuals, we want to help those we know, and those whom we know are deeply affected,” Greenberg said. “We are committed to supporting these communities in this difficult time, and so this beautiful town can be rebuilt to its historic brilliance.”
