Shein Shutters Indonesia Operations

Fast-fashion eCommerce company, Shein, will no longer ship to Indonesia — the largest eCommerce market in Southeast Asia.

According to Shein’s Indonesia website, the company ceased its Indonesian operations on July 29, 2021, nearly three years after establishing its presence in the country. However, all orders placed before that date will be delivered and customer service lines will remain open for inquiries until further notice.

Shein was founded in 2008 in Nanjing and has since created a strong global presence. In 2019, Shein sold $4.6 billion worth of merchandise to customers outside of China. In the first six months of 2020, its sales exceeded $6.1 billion, according to LatePost.

In a short span of time, Shein became a fierce competitor for fast-fashion retailers like Zara and H&M but has been losing traction in the Indonesian market.

According to web analytics services SimilarWeb, Shein Indonesia saw fewer than 5,000 visits in September 2020, while other players in the space, such as the country’s top fashion sales portal, Zalora, saw nearly 2.7 million visits within the same period.
