Westminster City Council and New West End Company have jointly initiated a project to revitalize the shopping experience on London’s renowned Oxford Street.

The project aims to support small businesses by providing them with rent-free shop spaces, encouraging them to bring forth “something unique” that will enhance the vibrancy of the shopping district.

The “Meanwhile On: Oxford Street” project is an extension of previous pilot schemes in the area, and it focuses on providing short-term pop-up spaces to businesses. The initiative is now inviting businesses to establish their inaugural store or physical presence.

Carefully selected brands will be granted prime store locations for an initial six-month duration, using spaces previously occupied by less desirable tenants like American candy stores, thus elevating the overall shopping experience on the street.

The scheme guarantees a minimum of 70% reduction in business rates. Additionally, the chosen businesses will have access to additional support services, such as assistance with store design, mentoring, management, and marketing guidance provided by independent retail consultants, Someday Studios, in collaboration with Westminster City Council.
