Back-to-school shopping season is here and it is pricier than ever.

Despite the continued uncertainty surrounding the school season in various states across the country, spend is still expected to rise by 16 percent year-over-year, reaching $32.5 billion. More spending, of course, means more financial challenges for parents.

Fashion retailer, Nordstrom, is looking to alleviate some of this financial stress on families in need through its annual campaign. The company is collaborating with nonprofit organization, Shoes That Fit and Nike to provide 25,000 pairs of Nike-branded shoes to children in need. The initiative comes as shoes are one of the most expensive items to purchase at the beginning of the school year.

“Each fall, our customers and employees look forward to the chance to help students across the country start school on the right foot with a pair of new sneakers,” said Scott Meden, chief marketing officer at Nordstrom.

“With many students returning to school for the first time since 2020, we are grateful to play a small part in setting them up for success as they reenter classrooms.”

For the past 11 years, Nordstrom and Shoes That Fit have banded together for the cause to support kids throughout local communities where Nordstrom operates. The two organizations have so far supplied more than 240,000 pairs of brand-new shoes to children in need.

Customers looking to donate to the Shoes That Fit campaign can do so by visiting any U.S. Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Nordstrom Local store, or on the Nordstrom and NordstromRack website. They can also choose to purchase a $10 Shoes That Fit giving card during check out at Nordstrom.com or make an online, tax-deductible donation at shoesthatfit.org/Nordstrom. All giving cards and donations go directly toward Shoes that Fit, who will be providing new Nike sneakers to kids in need.
