Ecommerce platform for designer fashion, Moda Operandi, is planning to expand into the beauty segment later this year.

“Beauty is the logical next step for Moda,” said Lauren Santo Domingo, Moda Operandi’s cofounder and chief brand officer.

“Our customer comes to us for our curated point of view on personal style across fashion, fine jewelry and home. With the launch of this category, Moda will become a complete lifestyle destination.”

With the launch of its new offering, Jessica Matlin has been appointed Moda Operandi’s director of beauty. Prior to joining the eCommerce platform, Matlin was the beauty director at Harper’s Bazaar.

According to the company, Matlin will be designated a buying team and will receive support from the eCommerce platform’s shared services marketing organization.

“I am excited to be leading this category launch, embracing a unique lens on luxury beauty with a thoughtful mix of content and commerce centered around exclusive access, elevated editorial, and brand discovery,” said Matlin, who is also a cohost of a podcast she cofounded called Fat Mascara.

According to Santo Domingo, Matlin is “a true beauty innovator” with an “authoritative voice and sharp perspective.”

The company’s launch into the beauty sector follows similar moves by other competing platforms such as Farfetch, Saks, Matchesfashion, Net-a-porter, and Mytheresa.

It also marks an effort to launch a more comprehensive beauty strategy as Moda Operandi has been known to sporadically offer beauty items.
