Jean Paul Gaultier Launches Fashion Rental And Resale Business
French designer label Jean Paul Gaultier is entering the bustling fashion rental market with the launch of a new service that will give consumers access to 30,000 vintage pieces, including some of the brand’s most iconic pieces and archival runway looks.
The rates for renting these pieces will start at $175 for a scarf and will go all the way up to nearly $820 for an evening dress.
The Paris-based maison is also launching a vintage resale service, with 50 items being sourced from private clients and other third-party sellers.
“We want to explore new ways of buying and experiencing fashion by mixing in the same platform,” Jean-Paul Gaultier CEO Antoine Gagey said.
The launch of the new service is part of the maison’s effort to reenergize its brand and improve its appeal and access for younger shoppers. The brand’s iconic corsets are already popular on fashion resale sites Depop and Vestiaire Collective, both of which are highly used by Gen Z and millennial shoppers.
The brand also recently looked to reinvigorate its appeal by collaborating with Lil Nas X and Sacai for its first haute couture collection, FashionUnited reported.
Recent red carpet appearances by celebrities such as Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner in vintage Jean Paul Gaultier dresses have helped put the designer label back in the spotlight.
