J. Crew Launches Resale Program — Retail Bum
J. Crew is jumping on the resale bandwagon with the launch of a new program that enables shoppers to buy and sell pre-used styles online and vintage apparel at its physical locations.
The new “J. Crew Always” program offers customers shopping credits when they send in their gently worn J. Crew clothes. Customers can also buy some of J. Crew’s vintage styles from the ’80s and ’90s exclusively at its stores at Bowery and Fifth Avenue in New York.
To launch the program, the company has expanded its partnership with online consignment platform ThredUp. The two companies first partnered in 2021 to launch a resale program for J. Crew’s sister brand Madewell, enabling buyers to trade in clothes for a store credit.
“Resale is still quite small for us, but ultimately the goal is to grow a circular business where you can extend the life of a product and it’s profitable and it does really well,” said Liz Hershfield, senior vice president & head of sustainability for J. Crew Group, at the National Retail Federation’s Big Show in New York.
The move to launch the program comes at a time when the resale industry is on track to surpass $300 billion in sales by 2031.
