Hill’s Pet Nutrition Launches Prescription Diet for Pets With Cancer — Retail Bum
One in four dogs and one in five cats are diagnosed with cancer each year, and most of these pets face malnutrition, which makes it harder for them to fight cancer and have a quality life.
That is a problem Hill’s Pet Nutrition is seeking to solve with its new clinical nutrition line, Prescription Diet ONC Care, which has been designed to nourish and support pets in their fight against cancer and to address an unmet nutritional need.
The nutrition line also promises to address various issues pets experience when suffering from cancer, such as loss of lean muscle, digestion issues and loss of appetite, which make it difficult for them to consume nutrition-rich meals.
“Appetite is a critical determinant in a pet parents’ perceived quality of life assessment for their pet with cancer,” said Chad Johannes, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM, Oncology), associate professor, Colorado State University. “Being proactive and maintaining pets with cancer in a positive nutritional plane over the course of their treatment can improve clinical outcomes as well as quality of life.”
According to Hill’s Pet Nutrition, the new Prescription Diet ONC Care lineup promotes a more enthusiastic appetite, helps them maintain muscle mass and healthy digestion.
