eBay Ventures Makes Investment in Sporting Goods Marketplace — Retail Bum
eBay Ventures has made an investment in SidelineSwap, an online marketplace that enables sports enthusiasts to shop for fresh and pre-used sporting products through its trade-in partnerships with retailers and brands.
SidelineSwap’s platform offers in-store and online trade-in options for brands and retailers, pop-up events, and a suite of tools for resellers. The marketplace supports first-party sales and P2P trading, enabling sellers to choose between direct resale or instant trade-in value. This hybrid approach enables customers to access a wide selection of gear at better price points.
While the deal’s financial terms were not revealed, the investment round is also being supported by DSG Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Dick’s Sporting Goods, venture capital firm FJ Labs, and several other angel investors.
“eBay Ventures’ investment in SidelineSwap represents our continued focus on circular economy and resale innovation, and our shared commitment to sustainability, affordability and best-in-class experiences for enthusiast buyers and sellers,” said Dawn Block, eBay’s vice president of collectibles, electronics and home.
EBay Ventures’ latest investment follows another recent investment in SidelineSwap by DSG Ventures, announced in November 2022.
“We’re excited about the eBay Ventures investment as it will help us to further shape the future of resale,” Brendan Candon, co-founder and CEO of SidelineSwap. “Our team has long admired eBay as the pioneer in recommerce, and we are looking forward to working together to ensure sporting goods customers find the best selection of gear at the best prices.”
