EBay Opens Pop-Up Shop in Chicago — Retail Bum

Online marketplace eBay is paying homage to the birth of the Air Jordan 1 and its relevance in the 1980s sneaker industry with the grand opening of The ’85 Shop, a pop-up retail store in Chicago.

Garry Thaniel, eBay’s global general manager of sneakers, noted that the Air Jordan 1 transformed the sneaker game and introduced the contemporary era of sneaker culture. The ’85 shop provides an opportunity for the community to commemorate one of the most legendary and long-lasting sneakers ever produced and possess a slice of history.

To bring The ’85 Shop to life, eBay collaborated with some of its top sneaker sellers to curate a collection. ShoeZeum’s Jordan Geller provided many of the shoes and memorabilia that were showcased in the film “Air,” while SoleStage curated a selection of modern Air Jordan 1s, retro colorways, and classic basketball sneakers, which are some of the best-selling sneakers on eBay.
