Dior Postpones Travis Scott Collection Indefinitely
Following the Astroworld concert tragedy that resulted in the deaths of 10 people, Dior has postponed its collaboration with Grammy-nominated artist and designer, Travis Scott, indefinitely.
The collection dubbed Cactus Jack, was co-designed by Scott and Kim Jones, the French luxury house’s creative director and was announced earlier this year.
“Out of respect for everyone affected by the tragic events at Astroworld, Dior has decided to postpone indefinitely the launch of products from the Cactus Jack collaboration originally intended to be included in its summer 2022 collection,” the company said in a statement.
Dior’s move follows other brands that have either postponed or ended their work engagement with Scott, with Nike being the latest.
During day one of a two-day festival in Houston, 300 people were injured in addition to those that were killed during a crowd surge. The youngest victim, Ezra Blount, was 9-years-old and died after spending days on a ventilator and being in a medically induced coma.
Investigations into the events are still ongoing.
Scott took to social media to express his remorse following the horrific event. He also met with radio host, Charlamagne tha God, for an interview where he discussed his experience and claimed that he stopped multiple times during the show to make sure everyone was okay. He also claimed that he was not aware of the situation until the press conference after the show.
“It really hurts. It hurts the community. It hurts the city. It’s a lot of feelings, a lot of grieving,” said Scott.
While many have chosen to distance themselves from the artist during this time, Scott was considered one of the most coveted collaborators, before the event.
Scott has collaborated with a wide range of brands, including McDonald’s and Fortnite, Nike, Dover Street Market, Byredo and most recently, Bottega Veneta’s for its “Issue 02″ digital magazine campaign. The artist has modeled for the Dior x Jordan 1 capsule collection last time Dior and Scott teamed up.
Given Scott’s extensive experience collaborating with various brands, Forbes magazine has dubbed him “ corporate America’s brand whisperer.”
Scott is the founder of the Cactus Jack Foundation, which was launched last year. The foundation made news when it partnered with the Parsons School of Design for establishing a new fashion program. Additionally, Scott launched his own scholarship program dedicated to supporting students at historically black colleges and universities.
