For its latest collection, LVMH-owned luggage maker, RIMOWA, has sought out a combination of emerging and established names to redesign its iconic pieces.

Every contributor involved was given complete creative freedom to redesign the pieces — with one stipulation and one stipulation only — the item redesigned had to keep its original functionality.

The collection, which has been dubbed ‘Vol. 1’, embodies deep creativity and features the following artists: 3.Paradis, About Dreams, Ashley Williams, CLOT, doublet, ENFANTS RICHES DÉPRIMÉS, Hood By Air, MA®KET, Pizzaslime and Pleasures.

3.Paradis

The piece by 3.Paradis is self-described as “disruptive, chic and poetic,” and Emeric Tchatchoua of 3.PARADIS, looked to utilize its trademark bird in flight motif.

About Dreams

Sustainably-sourced label, About Dreams, looked to apply its screen-printed butterfly logo in UNICEF’s shade of blue for its collaboration with RIMOWA. The logo was crafted using old denim jeans and featured across the Classic Cabin bag, the Never Still Backpack and the Personal Aluminum Cross-Body Bag.

Ashley Williams

“Clothes for luggage” — that is the concept behind Fashion East alumni Ashley Williams’ collection.

Williams made her solo runway debut in Spring/Summer 2015. Over time, she has become popular for her exuberant and irreverent clothing — something that can be seen in her Rimowa collection, which features the Original Check-In L and the Never Still Tote in colorful mohair patchwork knits.

CLOT

For its capsule collection with RIMOWA, Hong Kong-based CLOT looked to enlist world-renowned tattoo artist, Dr. Woo.

The collection features a Modernica seat engraved with hip-hop lyrics that fits atop the Original Cabin Plus, resulting in what the label describes as “a new rendition of a throne.” CLOT applied the same lyrics to RIMOWA’s Never Still Weekender and Personal Polycarbonate Cross-Body Bag in black for a total travel ensemble.

doublet

Masayuki Ino and Takashi Murakami of doublet created a novel look by plastering intricate sticker-style hand-embroidered designs on the Original Check-In M.

ENFANTS RICHES DÉPRIMÉS

For its RIMOWA installment, the Los Angeles and Paris-based fashion label opted for an “aggressive trio of objects synonymous with the brand’s ethos.” The brand’s interpretation of Classic Cabin, Classic Trunk and Personal Aluminum Cross-Body Bag features multiple locks, laser-print graphics and new trims and hardware.

Hood By Air

Known for its ability to blur the lines between streetwear and high fashion, Hood By Air, also known as HBA, focused on the Original Check-In M and Never Still Backpack for its collection. The label utilized its underground aesthetic by dressing both pieces in its classic HBA hoodie.

MA®KET

MA®KET, formerly known as Chinatown Market, took its signature Acid House smiley face motif and applied it to RIMOWA’s Original Trunk XL and Never Still Backpack using a unique airbrush technique.

Pizzaslime

Known for its in-your-face viral merchandise, Pizzaslime, looked to bring its “cool and weird as hell” aesthetic to RIMOWA’s Original Check-In M, Never Still Tote and Personal Aluminum Cross-Body Bag.

The collection features ten real wigs that were stitched on the suitcase, eyes to a tote, and colorful clay pieces on a cross-body bag.

Pleasures

For its RIMOWA capsule collection, PLEASURES, tapped visual artist Brvinfreeze to apply artwork by hand onto the Classic Trunk, Never Still Backpack and Personal Aluminum Cross-Body Bag for a series of stunning and eye-catching reworks.

The collection follows a series of collaborations Rimowa has embarked on, including those with Virgil Abloh, Kim Jones, Supreme and Rihanna.

The collection is available exclusively at HBX, with prices ranging from approximately $1,160 to $4,492.
