Bloomie’s is a moniker that has been used by Bloomingdale’s customers for decades as a term of endearment for the store. Now, Bloomingdale’s, the department store chain, is gearing to open its first-ever Bloomie’s store in Fairfax, Virginia, in August this year.

The nearly 22,000 sq. ft. location will be much smaller in size compared to a typical Bloomingdale store, which can be more than 200,000 square feet. The location is being designed to serve as a hub for experiences, particularly focussed on fashion. It will also feature a Colada Shop and a restaurant offering coffee, cocktails in the evening along with Caribbean-inspired small bites.

The new small-format store promises to offer customers something fresh to look at every time they return as it will sell men’s and women’s apparel, footwear, jewelry, handbags and beauty products that will get rotated throughout the week. Additionally, it will offer services such as alterations, appointments with stylists and a dropbox for returns, CNBC reported.

The stores will be similar to what Macy’s, the parent company of Bloomingdale’s, is planning for its small-format stores called Market by Macy’s. Their rollout is part of the company’s strategy to cut itself a bigger share of the U.S. luxury market, which has seen significant consolidation in the past 15 months with players such as Barneys New York and Lord & Taylor liquidating their business.

In the U.S., Macy’s currently operates 33 Bloomingdale’s stores and 21 Bloomingdale’s outlet stores.
