Authentic Brands Group Acquires British Heritage Brand Hunter — Retail Bum
Authentic Brands Group (ABG) has made another significant acquisition by securing Wellington boots specialist Hunter’s intellectual property (IP) for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition followed speculations surrounding Authentic Brands Group’s interest in the potential takeover of Hunter since the start of the year, as the brand was facing declining sales and was looking for additional cash.
The British heritage brand has been facing significant challenges due to the impact of the pandemic and the subsequent cancellation of festivals. Initially, the company’s primary buyer group, consisting mainly of festival attendees, was one of its most substantial customer segments.
As per previous reports, it was understood that Hunter was collaborating with AlixPartnersto secure new funding through an accelerated sales process. This approach aimed to facilitate the acquisition of the necessary funds for the brand’s financial requirements.
However, ABG emerged as the leading contender and the ultimate winner after reportedly competing head-to-head with the Chinese commerce group BaoZun.
