Apple Shutters New York City Stores
Apple has closed all of its retail stores in New York City as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in the city.
The stores will, however, remain accessible for online customers ordering curbside pickup, the company said Monday. The company operates 11 locations throughout Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island.
The closing of stores marks the second time Apple has been forced to shutter its brick-and-mortar locations due to the rise in the spread of the coronavirus. Earlier in 2020, the company closed all of its store locations across the U.S. Later, the company gradually began reopening its stores, but with added safety and sanitary measures. Employees, for example, had access to weekly at-home testing, and customers had access to designated sanitation stations at its store locations.
“We regularly monitor conditions and we will adjust our health measures to support the well-being of customers and employees,” the company said Monday.
“We remain committed to a comprehensive approach for our teams that combines regular testing with daily health checks, employee and customer masking, deep cleaning and paid sick leave.”
Apple has also temporarily closed its store locations in Miami, Fl., Ottawa, Ontario and Annapolis, Md. due to a spike in Covid cases in these cities.
