Amazon To Make “Buy With Prime” Accessible To Third-Party Merchants — Retail Bum
Amazon plans to widely roll out its “Buy With Prime” offering that allows third-party merchants outside its marketplace to use the company’s payment and delivery service.
The expansion of the service comes as Amazon is seeking to fend off competition from Canada’s Shopify, a player that has rapidly gained market share riding the coattails of the pandemic-induced eCommerce boom.
During the pandemic, many small- and medium-sized Amazon merchants began selling products directly on their website using Shopify Pay as they looked to avert warehouse capacity limitations and high shipping costs.
Now with Amazon starting to roll out its buy button for non-Amazon merchant sites, Shopify has issued a warning stating that installing “Amazon Buy With Prime” along with Shopify Pay is a violation of its terms of service, Reuters reported.
That said, Amazon is luring merchants with its promise of delivering a higher conversion rate. The eCommerce giant said its buy button increases conversion rate by an average of 25%. The high conversion rates are largely driven by Amazon Prime members, who pay a $139 annual membership fee.
Buy With Prime was first launched on an invite-only basis in April 2022. It is expected to become widely available for U.S. merchants by January 31, 2023.
