Amazon Takes Cue From TikTok, Plans To Roll Out Video Feed — Retail Bum
Amazon will soon be rolling out a TikTok-like feed on its mobile app, enabling customers to peruse through photos and videos and shop for recommendations offered by their favorite influencers.
The feature will initially be made available to select users in the U.S. this month but will become widely accessible in the coming months. Users will be able to access the feed by clicking on a light bulb button at the bottom of the Amazon mobile app.
The launch of the new offering aims to attract younger customers who have a greater affinity for shopping on social media apps such as Instagram and TikTok.
Its rollout is part of the company’s effort to address the slowdown in demand arising from decades-high inflation and fears of an incoming recession.
Amazon recently warned that its Q4 sales could miss market estimates. Last month, the company also began streamlining its workforce with a goal to let go up to 10,000 employees, representing 3% of its corporate workforce.
The job cuts are being made across the breadth of the company, including its voice-assistant Alexa team, its retail division, and human resources. Amazon corporate employees today represent less than 1% of its global workforce of more than 1.5 million, which is primarily composed of hourly workers.
