Amazon Rolls Out $5 Healthcare Subscription Plan — Retail Bum

Amazon is now offering a $5 healthcare subscription plan called RxPass to its Prime customers, the company announced Tuesday.

The plan promises to yield $100 in savings to subscribers with access to more than 50 generic drugs, addressing over 80 chronic ailments such as high blood pressure, anxiety, diabetes, and male pattern baldness.

“We believe a lot of Americans, particularly those that suffer from a chronic illness, are going to benefit from just Amazon’s participation in pharmacy, the ability to get high-quality experience delivered to your door at low cost,” said John Love, vice president of Amazon Pharmacy.

While the plan is accessible to Prime members across most states, those that are currently enrolled in government healthcare programs such as Medicare and Medicaid will not be eligible to take advantage of the RxPass service.

Eligible members, on the other hand, can access RxPass by paying $5 on top of their $139 annual Amazon Prime subscription charge. The $5 fee will be without insurance.

The launch of the service builds on Amazon’s acquisition of PillPack in 2018, which helped the company build out its prescription delivery service and get a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the pharmacy industry. In recent years, Amazon has also explored the development of telehealth services, fitness trackers, and cancer research.
