Amazon Plans To Open High-Tech Clothing Stores
--
Amazon is planning to open its first clothing store in Los Angeles suburbs by the end of this year.
The store will offer apparel and accessories for men and women from both established and emerging brands at a wide range of price points.
“You’ll find everything from the $10 basic to the designer jeans to the $400 timeless piece,” Simoina Vasen, managing director of Amazon Style said.
“We want to meet every budget and every price point.”
The 30,000 square feet store will seek to address friction points that are typically associated with shopping in physical stores. Customers, for example, will be able to use their smartphones to navigate the store and browse through available inventory. Products displayed inside the store will come equipped with QR codes, which customers can scan using their Amazon app for checking the availability of additional sizes, product ratings and even personalized recommendations.
“This allows us to offer more selection without requiring customers to sift through racks to find that right color, size and fit,” Vasen said.
Shoppers will also be able to scan the QR code and use their Amazon app to have the items sent to an assigned fitting room or a pickup counter.
Once inside the fitting room, shoppers can use touch-screen displays to rate items and place requests for different styles and sizes, which an associate can then deliver to a “secure closet” that will unlock once the items have been delivered. Meaning, customers will be able to continue shopping without leaving the fitting room.
Once customers know what they want, they can checkout by scanning their Palm using Amazon One. Later, they will be able to access their in-store purchase history on their Amazon app.
