Alexander McQueen’s Creative Head Steps Down — Retail Bum
Alexander McQueen’s Creative Director Sarah Burton will be showcasing her last collection at the Paris Fashion Week on September 30, 2023, parent company Kering announced.
“We would like to express our deep gratitude to Sarah for writing such an important chapter in the history of the Alexander McQueen House,” said Alexander McQueen CEO Gianfilippo Testa, adding that Burton’s contributions will leave an indelible mark.
Burton began working for the storied brand 26 years ago as an intern and went on to serve as the right-hand woman to the late designer. In 2010, when McQueen passed away, Burton was handed the creative reigns, putting her in charge of writing the next chapter of the brand’s future.
As the new creative head, Burton continued the late designer’s legacy of impeccable tailoring and strong silhouettes, but at the same time, added her soft touch to the brand’s aesthetic, moving away from the shock value the brand was once known for.
“I am so proud of everything I have done and of my incredible team at Alexander McQueen,” said Burton. “They are my family, and this has been my home for the last 26 years. I would like to thank Francois-Henri Pinault for believing in me and offering me this incredible opportunity. Above all, I would like to thank Lee Alexander McQueen. He taught me so much, and I am eternally grateful to him. I look forward to the future and my next chapter and will always carry this cherished time with me.”
