Adidas Withdraws its Trademark Infringement Case Against Black Lives Matter — Retail Bum

German sportswear giant adidas has retracted its opposition to Black Lives Matter’s use of three parallel stripes in its logo design, reversing course in less than 48 hours.

The company had previously asked the U.S. Trademark Office to reject the organization’s trademark application, which was filed in November 2020, as it believed the organization’s yellow stripes resembled its own three-stripe design, likely making shoppers think that they were linked or came from the same source.

The company sought to block the organization from using its logo design on products that are also made by adidas, such as shirts, hats, and bags, among other things.

Less than two days after filing the objection, the company reversed course as it believed that consumers could associate its objection as criticism of the organization’s goals and objectives, according to Reuters.

“Adidas will withdraw its opposition to the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation’s trademark application as soon as possible,” the company said in a statement.
