Adidas Deploys Traceability Tool For Improving Sustainability Quotient
German sportswear giant, adidas, is tapping a supply chain traceability tool to help improve its products’ sustainability quotient.
The tool, which is offered by TrustTrace, allows brands and retailers to trace their products’ origins back to the material level by creating a centralized database of certifications and documents, which in turn, helps support any sustainability claims. It also offers near real-time information on sustainability credentials based on data offered by suppliers.
“You are now talking about millions of products sold and at each product level you need to have evidence behind it,” said TrusTrace co-founder and chief executive Shameek Ghosh.
Adidas’ move to deploy the solution on its platform comes at a time when regulators are cracking down on brands that greenwash their products and fail to meet environmental disclosure requirements.
The company has set a target to only utilize recycled polyester by 2024 and make 90% of its products sustainable by 2025 — and that is something its partnership with TrustTrace can help with, according to Ghosh.
Brands and retailers often utilize consumer data for their decision-making when it comes to marketing and stock planning, but using that data in the supply chain space can be a powerful tool for change, he added.
